Democracy fails when the citizenry becomes too apathetic or skeptical to vote!
This election cycle I have heard a lot of people say, “I hate both candidates, they are
Voter turnout has plummeted since political campaigns began running significant TV campaigns 50 years ago. I admit the negative ads run by both major parties have turned my stomach.
The real issues are not even talked about, but the only way to make your voice heard is to vote. The fact is that there has never been a perfect United States President. All the Presidents that we now consider great, had weaknesses, character flaws and bad habits. Most our greatest leaders would never get elected today under the withering attacks of today's profit-minded, scandal-focused media. The media, with our complicity, has created a game where we end up disillusioned, disgusted and apathetic.
The truth is that the only way to change it is by casting your vote. If you hate Hillary and Trump, then vote for the party that you believe will create the America, you want to see. Don’t let a single issue decide your vote, look at the big picture. If you don’t like either party vote for one of the many talented independent candidates on the ballot. Don’t cop out by saying your vote won’t matter. If enough people voted for an independent candidate, things would change!
If you fail to cast a vote, in essence, you are endorsing the status quo and voting to keep things the same.
Change is always hard, progress always comes at a price and totally right answers and perfect candidates are an illusion that does not exist and has never existed. That is why we have to be engaged citizens, citizens that vote.
Your individual voice matters, if every one who could vote did vote, things would change in amazing ways. If you believe in democracy, then get out and vote, get your friends to vote.
